Li River cruise from Guilin to Yangshuo
Boats usually depart from Guilin docks on Binjiang Lu, though if the water level of the river is low, buses will take you 40 minutes downstream. The cruise lasts about four hours, with lunch served on board, and to get back to Guilin involves a two-hour bus ride. Prices start at around 500 yuan (including lunch and return bus).

Yangshuo
A small, friendly market village, located 70km south of Guilin caught between nearby peaks and the Li river, which thrives mainly on tourism and seems to have nothing but tourist shops.

Fubo Shan (Whirlpool Hill)
Situated on the edge of the Li River on the site of a temple dedicated to a general back to the Tang Dynasty, Whirlpool Hill offers an impressive view of the surrounding area. At its base are a vast bell and the Qing-era Thousand Man Vessel (Qian Ren Gang). The 10-foot stalactite in Huanzhu Dong (The Cave of the Returned Pearl) is a place should not be missed on the south side of the hill.

Moon Hill
10km west of Yangshuo. A forty-five minute ascent on steps up this distinctively shaped hill is rewarded by fabulous views of surrounding peaks and paddy fields. (Entry fee: 3 yuan)
