Yuangshuo in the middle of the Karst region surrounding Guilin is the place to be. Where Guilin is a big city near the Karst structures, Yuangshuo is a lovely village in the middle of the Karst structures. While walking through the main street you can see the peaks all around. Apart from the better scenery, hotels more accustomed to the needs of western travellers, Yuangshuo has another advantage. Because it is right in the centre of the Karst region you can rent a bike and make lovely trips in the surroundings, where green rice fields are cut by incredible limestone peaks. One of these peaks is the moon hill, named because of the immense moon-shaped hole init, which you can climb. From the top you will be able the see miles and miles of karst-structures. But if you are not up for the climb, you can stay at ground level and go by bamboo raft along the river or go even lower and go underground in one of the many caves.
