The Khunjerab pass is the highest point of the Karakoram highway and the border between China and Pakistan. Although the actual pass isn’t that long it encompasses some of the most impressive mountain scenery in the world. If you are on public transport, you will probably be forced to spend a night between between Kashgar and Pakistan in Tashkurghan (see the mud wall fort) because the bus stops there and doesn't go on until next morning.

Be aware that because of mudslides the pass is closed to all vehicles except trucks during the rainy season (December-April). A Pakistani visa (easily obtainable in Hong Kong or Beijing) will need to be arranged in advance.
